Specific Challenges
The project was located on a restricted city-centre site with very limited working space. Continuous access for hotel staff and service vehicles was maintained throughout the works. Construction was carried out immediately adjacent to the existing basement and spa of this five-star heritage hotel, demanding careful sequencing of operations and temporary works design.
Solutions
A B300XP2 rig, fitted with a dual rotary head, was used to install CFA piles safely through sands and gravels close to sensitive heritage structures. Each pile was socketed at 3.5m, achieving the required capacity while minimising disruption.
Specialised Techniques
The works combined compression, tension, and shear piles, providing safe working loads of up to 1,750 kN. A 63-pile contiguous wall was constructed to enable secure basement excavation and provide effective underpinning to this prestigious city landmark.
