Site Challenges
One of the key project challenges involved installing the new RD Pile wall approximately 2m out from the existing harbour wall.
This created significant access and reach limitations for the piling rig within the restricted working area, requiring a bespoke temporary works solution to safely complete the installation works.
Solution
To overcome the restricted access constraints, Quinn Piling designed and installed a temporary working platform capable of supporting the piling rig during the wall installation works.
The temporary platform solution included:
- Installation of 12no. 179mm diameter Odex piles with 2m rock sockets
- Installation of 12no. 314mm diameter Odex piles with 3m rock sockets
- Construction using 305 x 305 x 97 steel beams and box sections
- Steel deck mats welded directly to the beam structure
This bespoke platform provided the stability and reach required to safely complete the piling operations adjacent to the existing harbour wall.
